Emotional Numbness and Why It Happens
Emotional numbness is not a lack of emotions.
It is a protection response.
Your system numbs when everything becomes too much.
### What numbness looks like:
• “I can’t feel anything right now.”
• You watch life from a distance
• Things don’t excite or upset you
• You feel disconnected from your own self
### Why it happens:
Your mind is protecting you from emotional overload.
It temporarily reduces intensity to help you survive.
### Gentle steps:
• Allow yourself to name even one small feeling
• Do slow grounding, not intense emotional work
• Return to sensory experiences (touch, sound, warmth)
• Be kind to yourself — this is not your fault
You are not empty.
You are overwhelmed.
