Mood Swings Don’t Mean You’re ‘Too Much’
Mood swings can be scary. One moment you’re fine, the next you’re irritated, sad, or anxious. It feels like emotions come out of nowhere — and adults often misunderstand this and say things like “Why are you overreacting?” or “Calm down.”
But your brain is literally rewiring itself during these years. Hormones fluctuate. Stress levels rise. Emotional areas of the brain develop faster than areas responsible for control. Your mood shifts because you are developing, not because you’re dramatic.
Instead of judging your feelings, try observing them. “I’m feeling angry right now.” “I’m feeling sad.” “Something triggered me.” Naming emotions reduces their intensity.
Your changing moods don’t make you difficult. They make you human. And they are a sign that your emotional system is growing stronger — even if it feels chaotic.
Give yourself patience. You’re becoming someone.
